The real wilderness – 100km north from Drysdale on a heavily currogated road and then another 80km west into nowhere. The dirt track was great considering the location but we still rattled our bones the whole way. I have enormous respect for the car and trailer to survive. You need to try and travel fast enough to skip over the currogations but the razor sharp large rocks, hidden dips, sunblinded crests, unexpectedly deep water and sudden steep descents keep you on your toes. (not to mention the occasional vehicle coming the other way) Fortunately I discovered my tow bar ball had almost shook itself out from the bumping around – the nut was just hanging on – thank god I discovered that and fixed it before I lost the trailer. AND THE DUST!!!!!!! It is now officially everywhere. The inside of the car and the trailer are FILTHY!
Anyway no complaining – this is why we came here and we lived up to the challenge.
We made our way up from Drysdale River to the King Edward River where we stopped for morning tea (and currogation relief). It was incredibly beautiful swimming in the river and exploring the rocky banks and waterfalls so we stayed for a few hours and had lunch there before moving on to Mitchell Falls for the night.

Next morning we took a helicopter trip from the camp site to the falls. Susan went with Thomas and Daniel and I took Tess. Only about 8 minutes (and $105 each) but the excitement on the kids face during their first doorless helicopter flight was equally as priceless as the view over the falls.

We spent the next 4 hours exploring the falls and then walking back via the Mehrton falls to the camp.

And then the drive back to Drysdale River Station. Now I know why the Wrights were so dusty (although I cannot explain why they were so smelly!)The bloody dust is everywhere!
We are tired and we are definitely rattled and shaken but very satisfied.
After a quick sleep over at Drysdale we are off to El Questro to catch up with the Wrights and Paolucci’s for 3 nights
